Schools Counselling

Our Schools Counselling Service delivers an ‘in-school’ 121 counselling service to students attending schools located in North East Hampshire.

A qualified counsellor will be available at the school for a set number of hours each week, during which they will deliver 121 counselling sessions with students as required.

Students will be able to access a set number of counselling sessions depending on the preference of the school although we would advise that no less than 6 sessions should be allocated to an individual student.

Why in-School Counselling?

Benefits of having an ‘in-school’ service available to students in the school environment include:

  • Reducing the reliance on a parent or guardian to transport a student to their counselling sessions
  • Allowing students to access counselling more easily without necessarily having to inform their parent or guardian. This may encourage some young people to be more open, potentially allowing them to gain greater benefit from their counselling sessions
  • Simplifying the process for staff members to refer students to a service that’s located within the school
  • Increasing students’ awareness of the support available to them when it’s accessible on-site

Why Counselling is different to other pastoral services that your school may already provide?

  • Given the confidential nature of counselling, the student understands that the content of their sessions will not be shared with members of the school staff
  • The counsellor is not employed by the school and so will not be visible in any other part of school life further ensuring confidentiality
  • Students have a 50-minute 121 session dedicated completely to them with no interruptions
